Description
Why should doctors incorporate Christianity into a medical model? How does this requirement of faith relate to the practice of medicine? Today’s physician is held to the gold standard of evidenced-based medicine. One must see to believe.
A Christian and a medical doctor, Dr. Marilyn Lajoie wrote this guidebook on how to bridge the gap between doctors that are Christians and also patients that share the same beliefs. These days, Christian physicians have a difficult time being bold and evangelical in their professional lives. At the same time, Christian patients are not clear as to how their faith is supposed to play in their medical treatment plan. Do they bring up the fact that they serve the ultimate physician, for instance? Do they tell a doctor why they may disagree with a certain treatment plan? If they choose to divulge their faith, how then should their doctors respond?
Both doctors and patients have, in many cases, abandoned any mention of Christianity within medical offices. It is the sincere prayer of the author that every Christian doctor becomes confident in their faith, both in and out of the medical office, thus declaring their office as a “safe zone” for Christian patients. This book provides the reasons to do so from a Biblical perspective, as well as from the more formal, evidence-based medicine that doctors are taught to rely on in their decision-making.
This guidebook shows the path to incorporate Christianity into the medical office on all levels, from the administrative office staff to deciding on treatment plans. This book is also meant to be a guide for Christian patients who want their doctors to include their faith in the relationship they share. Dr. Lajoie hopes that this book will help elevate the relationship shared by the doctor and patient.
Being “in Christ”, each possesses a critical role and responsibility to each other in the doctor-patient relationship. The scope of this book, Dr. Lajoie hopes, will expand the consciousness of the Christian medical community.
